Surge In Spiritual Start-ups As Pilgrims Progress At Maha Kumbh

The ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025 has seen a remarkable surge in the spiritual start-up ecosystem, with several platforms reporting never-seen-before engagement and growth. One of the world’s largest religious gatherings has not only drawn crores of devotees but also propelled a significant demand for spiritual services and products. As pilgrims flock to participate in the sacred event, spiritual start-ups have leveraged this opportunity to introduce tailored offerings catering to their needs, drive user engagement, and exceed their revenue expectations.

VAMA, which provides services like live kathas from the Maha Kumbh region, home delivery of Maha Kumbh Triveni Gangajal and daily Maha Kumbh chadhava at Triveni Sangam, saw a 40 per cent increase in traffic compared to pre-event levels. During this period, there was a remarkable 70 per cent rise in new user registrations. Currently, the platform boasts over 250,000 active transacting users, according to Moneycontrol.

Similarly, Sri Mandir, a spiritual start-up backed by Peak XV, a leading venture capital and growth investing firm, surpassed its expected revenue targets. Its curated offerings like the Maha Kumbh Ashirvad Box, guided pilgrimage experiences, and online puja services are a hit among devotees. In September, AppsForBharat, the parent company of Sri Mandir, secured $18 million in series B funding from Fundamentum and Peak XV.

Sri Mandir teamed up with the Vedashram Trust and Sri Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhada to offer authentic rituals, VIP snan services, and accommodations. Their best-selling services included personalised pujas at Triveni Sangam, Maha Daan services, and the delivery of sacred Triveni Sangam Jal.

Similarly, Gurugram-based AstroYogi saw over 100,000 devotees who couldn’t attend in person tune in virtually via its app. It saw a 50 per cent increase in the online puja segment and a 30 per cent rise in retail puja products. The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13 and will end on February 26, has attracted 62 crore devotees so far. This surge in participation has also impacted travel-technology platforms, resulting in a significant increase in bookings for buses, trains, and flights.
